EN1SB - a new acoustically transparent screen formulation
November 24, 2009 -- Bellingham, WA -- Screen Excellence, an industry leader in projection screens for the home and commercial markets, has announced a new acoustically transparent (AT) and neutral fabric called Enlightor 1 SilverBack™ or EN1SB for short. The new fabric allows for superior audio performance, with the LOWEST insertion loss of any AT screen fabric on the market today.
EN1SB is the same material as the current EN1 fabric from Screen Excellence, with the important addition of a silver-coated backside.

The silver reflective coating helps mitigate visible reflections from projected light that gets through the screen and bounces off the wall or objects behind the screen, like speakers. EN1SB obviates the need for the black backing layer needed behind most acoustically transparent screens; however it is strongly recommended that the surface(s) behind the screen be matte black.
Two world-renowned movie and sound post production studios in Northern California have recently selected EN1SB material, specifically for its acoustic transparency, for their latest production mix down theaters.
Screen Excellence manufactures 16:9 motorized screens (RM models) with EN1SB in widths up to 128". Widescreen format (2.37:1) motorized screens with EN1SB are available in widths up to 170".
Fixed screens (RF models) in 16:9 format with EN1SB are available in widths up to 160". Widescreen models with EN1SB in 2.37:1 format are available in sizes up to 214" wide.
Prices for screens with EN1SB start at $745.
John Caldwell, StJohn Group’s Sales Director, asserted, “Screen Excellence has been positioned from the outset as a brand at the forefront for reconciling the worlds of video and audio performance. SilverBack is the next natural progression in Screen Excellence’s quest to find the perfect projection screen for both the video and audio experience."

Behind this rich heritage is Patrice Congard, founder and CEO of Screen Excellence. Mr. Congard is the originator of the modern acoustically transparent screen and is a leading innovator of the technology. His entire career has been focused on delivering superb engineering solutions to a variety of professional and consumer audio projects. The development of acoustically transparent screens is the natural solution he envisioned after providing loudspeaker systems that had to be accommodated around screens – not in their natural position, which, as in commercial applications, is behind the screen.
